A template contains folders and starter Markdown. Applying it copies that tree into an empty vault. The resulting vault is independent: later template edits do not rewrite existing knowledge.

Apply a template

  1. Choose an empty vault in Knowledge.
  2. Select an available template, such as Northern Logic Wiki, from the empty-vault setup controls.
  3. Apply it with Vault admin access.
  4. Open the resulting files and customize them for the vault’s purpose.
A vault with existing files or folders is not eligible for whole-template application. The product does not merge a template into a populated vault. Create an empty team vault if your plan allows it, or add selected folders and pages manually.

Create or edit a template

Members with Editor or Vault admin access to at least one workspace vault can create and edit organization templates. Open Templates → New template. Choose From Northern Logic Wiki to select useful folders from the wiki catalog, or Empty tree to build your own. Open the template to edit its folder tree and starter Markdown. A vault admin can also use Save as template from a Knowledge tree to capture a useful existing structure. Review it for private or customer-specific content before making it reusable.

Set onboarding defaults

Workspace owners and admins can choose company, personal, and team defaults in Templates. These are used at the supported creation or invitation steps: personal defaults on invitation acceptance, team defaults on new team-vault creation, and company defaults on an eligible owner/admin invitation acceptance when Company is empty. Changing a default does not update existing vaults. A new self-serve workspace starts empty until someone applies a template or creates content.

Sharing templates

Templates visible to your workspace may be organization-owned, assigned by Northern Logic, or part of the catalog. Partner owners and admins can assign organization templates to sibling client workspaces. An assignment exposes the reusable template; applying it is still a separate copy into a vault.
