You need Editor or Vault admin access to change a vault. Viewers can browse and download its content.

Create files and folders

  1. Open Knowledge and choose a vault.
  2. Select + File → New or + Folder → New.
  3. Enter a name and choose a location. Use a .md filename for a page.
  4. Create the item. Empty folders are real items and synchronize to paired machines.
On a wiki vault, + Folder → From catalog offers additional organized folders. Review the choices before adding them. See Northern Logic Wiki.

Rename or move an item

Use the file or folder’s tree context menu. Rename it inline or open the move controls and choose the destination. You can also move items using the tree’s drag-and-drop controls. Moving a folder moves its whole subtree. The children’s content is unchanged, and a page’s Activity can show movement inherited from its parent folder. A move does not overwrite another item already occupying the destination. Keep file names portable: do not end a name in a dot or space, use reserved names such as CON, or create siblings that differ only in capitalization. Overview.md and overview.md collide in the same folder.

Delete carefully

Use the item’s delete action. A non-empty folder requires confirmation because deletion hides its contents together. Deletion is retained in history rather than immediately purging the underlying content. There is no general Trash browser in the current Knowledge tree. If you cannot reopen a deleted item to recover it, contact support with the workspace, vault, approximate path, and deletion time. Do not assume creating a file with the same name restores the original: it creates a different item and can block restoration into that path.

Choose a different access boundary

Folders inherit vault access. To isolate a team’s material, create a team vault with + New vault in the Vault selector and assign its members. Team vault creation is available to workspace owners and admins on supported plans.
