Local files
Follow Pair a machine and give the app-generated setup prompt to Hermes on that machine. For an already paired machine, use Add this harness. Confirmnlkb doctor passes and use nlkb orient to find the
actual mounted vault. Give Hermes access to that location through its normal
file controls.
Ask Hermes to open a known page and report its path and one short supporting
sentence. Do this before asking it to edit shared knowledge.
Remote MCP with OAuth
For direct cloud access without a local replica, add a named server:/reload-mcp in an existing session to load the
server’s tools. Registration or successful tool discovery alone does not prove
access to a particular vault.
Check your result
Ask Hermes to orient, search for the known page, read it, and include the source path in its answer. Compare the source with the app and inspect the connection’s recent activity. Then try the first-answer walkthrough. If it did not work
If tools are missing, reload MCP and inspect the test error. If authentication is rejected, check the client version and browser flow; do not put a durable key into a knowledge page or shared config as a workaround. If the server connects but the page is missing, follow source and access checks. Scheduled wiki maintenance belongs to Hermes when you configure it there. Northern Logic does not start a Hermes job when you create a connection. Confirm the job and its completed result in Hermes before relying on a schedule. Verification status:add --url --auth oauth and test syntax were checked
against installed CLI help, and session reload behavior against the
official Hermes guide,
on September 5, 2026. An authenticated end-to-end Northern Logic connection has
not been verified for this guide. See
compatibility.
