# Hand off client work

> Leave a clear source page and continuation request for an authorized teammate.

**Outcome:** another person can pick up the work without reconstructing it from
chat history.

**Before you start:** use a vault appropriate for the client information. You
need write access for the handoff page; the receiving teammate needs existing
read access and Editor access if they must update it. An external client is not
automatically a workspace member.

## 1. Save the current state

Create a handoff page with this outline:

```md theme={null}
# Client discovery handoff
## Goal
What the client is trying to accomplish.
## Confirmed decisions
Decisions, dates, and links to their supporting pages.
## Open questions
Questions that still need an answer, with suggested owners.
## Next action
One concrete action and the person expected to take it.
## Sources
Links to the brief, meeting notes, and relevant procedures.
```

Separate confirmed facts from proposed next steps. Review the page for material
the recipient should not receive.

## 2. Verify access

Ask the recipient to open the handoff and key source pages. Use a
[team vault](/collaboration/vault-access) when membership should differ from
Company. A folder alone does not create a separate access boundary.

## 3. Send a focused request

On the saved page, select **Send to…** and ask the authorized teammate to
confirm ownership of the next action. The request appears in their **Waiting on
me** list. If you are continuing later yourself, use **Park** instead.

## 4. Resume and close the loop

The recipient opens the source or copies its resume prompt into their chosen
tool. They update durable decisions in Knowledge and mark the request done when
its requested work is complete. Follow-ups do not launch an agent or schedule a
reminder.

## Check your result

The recipient can explain the current state, name the next action, and open the
evidence. The source remains usable even after the Follow-up expires.

## Sharing with an external client

If a client only needs a read-only view, a vault admin can create an
appropriately scoped [share link](/collaboration/sharing). Review the audience
and remember that shares show live content. **Send to…** is for authorized
workspace recipients and is not external email delivery.

**If it did not work:** [Fix a share link](/help/share-unavailable). **Next:**
[Review and resume work](/tutorials/review-and-resume).
