# Export

> Download current Markdown or a folder tree you can use elsewhere.

Viewers, editors, and vault admins can export the content they can read.

## Download content

1. Open **Knowledge** and choose a vault.
2. Open the context menu on a file, folder, or vault root.
3. Choose its download/export action.
4. For a ZIP, extract it and open representative Markdown files in a text
   editor.

A file downloads as Markdown. A folder or vault exports its current folder tree
as a ZIP, including empty folders where applicable. Split a large export into
smaller folders or separate vaults if it exceeds the limits.

## What the export contains

The export preserves current Markdown and folder structure. Wikilinks,
frontmatter, and relative links remain text you can use in another compatible
editor. Remote media remains a URL; downloading the Markdown does not download
the remote asset.

Exports do not include revision history, conflicts, audit events, deleted
content, Follow-ups, Agent Profiles, or the separate Skills and Templates
libraries. Download a skill package from **Skills** when you need that package.

Personal vaults require explicit authorized selection. They are not silently
added to a default shared-vault export.

## Limits

An export is bounded to 25,000 current entries per selected vault and 50 MiB of
uncompressed Markdown across the archive. If you see `export_too_large`, narrow
the selection.

## Moving to another tool

Keep a copy of the ZIP, inspect linked paths, and verify several files before
removing access to your old workspace. Opening exported Markdown elsewhere
creates an independent copy. Later edits in that copy do not synchronize unless
you place them into a correctly paired replica.

An export is a current-content snapshot. It is not a complete application backup
or a way to restore memberships and historical revisions.
