# My agent cannot find a page

> Check the source, access, and connection before trusting a missing or stale answer.

1. **Open the source in the app.** Confirm its workspace, vault, path, and saved
text. Use a distinctive phrase in Search and select Personal explicitly if
relevant. Profiles, Follow-ups, and library packages are not ordinary
   knowledge search results.
2. **Ask the tool to orient again.** Compare its workspace and available vaults
with the page you opened. Ask it to read the exact source, rather than answer
   from chat history.
3. **Check the owner and grants in Connections.** The connection cannot exceed
its owner's vault role. Team vaults must be selected explicitly. Ask a vault
admin to correct access if the source is outside the permitted scope.
4. **For local files, inspect the replica.** Use `nlkb orient` to find the
actual mounted folder and `nlkb doctor` to check health. Follow
[sync troubleshooting](/help/sync-not-updating) if the file is absent or old.
5. **For MCP, check authentication and activity.** An unused connection may mean
the client never made a request. Authenticate in the client and ask it to run
orientation and read the page. An idle MCP connection does not need
   continuous heartbeats.

**Resolved when:** the tool opens the intended saved page and identifies its
current content. If it still cannot, contact
[support](/reference/troubleshooting#get-help) with the client/version, time,
redacted error, and whether app access works. Never include its connection key.
