# Client compatibility

> Understand which setup details have been checked and how to verify your own connection.

Northern Logic offers local Markdown sync and a Streamable HTTP MCP endpoint.
Client transport support, authentication, model access, and plan restrictions
are separate requirements.

| Client or route | Available guide | Evidence checked September 5, 2026 | Authenticated end-to-end check |
| ------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------ |
| Claude Code | [Local files and OAuth MCP](/connections/claude-code) | Official MCP reference and CLI 2.1.258 registration help | Not yet recorded |
| Hermes Agent | [Local files and OAuth MCP](/connections/hermes) | Official MCP guide and installed CLI add/test help | Not yet recorded |
| Other file-capable tools | [Local sync](/connections/local-sync) | Northern Logic setup workflow and replica behavior | Verify in your chosen tool |
| Other remote MCP clients | [Remote MCP](/connections/remote-mcp) | Northern Logic endpoint and permission model | Client-specific compatibility varies |

A documented setup route is not a certification for every client version. Do not
assume a tool supports this endpoint simply because it advertises MCP: it needs
the appropriate remote transport and authentication flow. Client subscription
requirements remain the client's responsibility.

## Verify your connection

1. Record the client version and whether you chose local files or remote MCP.
2. Complete setup with an identity authorized for the intended vault.
3. Ask the tool to orient, find a known page, and actually open it.
4. Compare a source-backed answer against the saved page.
5. Change a harmless test fact and fetch the page again, as shown in
   [the walkthrough](/tutorials/first-ai-answer).
6. If writing is needed, test one agreed edit separately and inspect Activity.

For a mismatch, send the client/version, route, approximate time, and redacted
failure to [support](/reference/troubleshooting#get-help). Exclude credentials
and private page contents. These details also help us improve the client guides.
