# Sharing

> Create and manage live read-only links for your organization or anyone with the link.

You need Vault admin access to create or manage share links. Editors and viewers
can send an existing in-app URL to someone who already has access, but cannot
create broader sharing permission.

## Create a share

1. Open a page and select **Share → Share details**, or use the folder/vault
   tree context menu.
2. Inspect **Who can open** before copying. When permitted, the default is
   **Anyone with the link**.
3. Choose **Anyone with the link** or **People in the organization**.
   Organization links are unavailable for personal vaults.
4. Choose the expiration for a new link: Never, 7 days, 30 days, or 90 days.
5. Select **Copy link**. This can create a share, not merely copy the ordinary
   page address.
6. Check the scope before sending it to the intended reader.

**Anyone with the link** grants read-only access without an account. **People in
the organization** allows active members with the link to view the target even
without a vault grant.

For restricted access, send the ordinary in-app page URL to an existing vault
member. The Share dialog's audience selector does not include a Restricted
option. Use **Disable link** to remove an existing broader share.

## Shares show live content

Readers see the current Markdown. Sharing a folder or vault includes new files
added inside that shared subtree. Moving a file out of the subtree removes it
from that share.

The public view is read-only. It has no editing, commenting, sync, history,
search, or export controls. A share is not a custom-domain website or a
search-indexed publication.

## Change or end access

Select **Disable link** in Share details to revoke the active link. Changing the
audience on an existing share replaces the broader access setting. To change an
existing link's expiry, disable it and create a new link with the intended
expiration; changing the selector alone does not rewrite a link already in use.

If the browser no longer has the secret for an existing share, **Copy link**
rotates it to reveal a new URL. Previously distributed URLs then stop working.
Copy and distribute the replacement deliberately.

Expiration, vault archive, workspace suspension, or disabling Anyone links can
also make a URL unavailable. Disabling the person who created a share does
**not** automatically revoke it, because it belongs to the vault.

Anyone-link viewers appear as **External viewer** in the audit trail. Their
personal identity is not established. Treat the URL as access-bearing
information and rotate it if it reaches the wrong audience.
